Reflexology is a holistic, non-invasive therapy involving the study of the therapeutic relationship between the reflex areas found on the feet, hands and ears, to their corresponding structures and systems of the body. These reflex areas can be worked on with the fingers and thumbs in a manner that will lead to the re-establishment of structural and systemic function, improving and maintaining health and wellbeing. The primary aim of reflexology is to recover the natural equilibrium within a person's whole system, re-establishing the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual. Reflexology has developed in many ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, Native Americans, Indians and particularly Chinese and Oriental cultures. It has strong links with Chinese medicine, and is an extremely therapeutic way to restore and maintain the natural healthy function of the body, relieving stress and tension, and promoting general wellbeing. During a consultation a thorough health and wellness assessment is conducted. This is designed to identify the specific underlying patterns of disharmony in the system, and tailor treatment to the individual's needs. Each session begins with a warm foot bath, containing essential oils, to clean and soften the skin. Please be aware, however, that it is important that the client ensures a satisfactory level of cleanliness and hygiene of their feet themselves. A large portion of the treatment is focussed on the feet, with specific areas on the hands also utilised. Herbal creams are used and the client is not required to disrobe. Auriculartherapy (ears) is an important part of reflexology. Several points will be located and treated on the ears, corresponding to individual requirements. Those points deemed to be most important to the treatment will also be 'seeded' in which a very small metal seed (ball bearing) will be stuck onto the point for the client to work themselves over the following days. |
